Sustainability at The Putney School is “a way of life,” as intimated in our mission statement. Consequently, many of the amazing things that regularly transpire here are not applauded as initiatives because they are simply part of the fabric of our daily experience. In other words, “It’s just what we do.”  Nevertheless, Putney is leading the way in secondary school sustainability initiatives and education, so it’s important to make explicit to the larger community what we actually do here. Every facet of The Putney School’s sustainability program in so intricately interconnected with the whole that it’s difficult to break it into discrete parts. However, in the interest of communication we’ve divided our sustainability program into three main components:
