The Putney School Campus
Located in picturesque southeastern Vermont, The Putney School was founded in 1935 by Carmelita Hinton, a progressive education pioneer.
Since 1987 Putney Summer Arts has provided a unique educational experience for teens. Putney Summer students will join a vibrant group of 100+ students, along with our fantastic teaching staff, on Putney’s beautiful 600-acre hilltop campus.

Summer Programs Office
The Summer Programs Office is the point of contact for all of our summer students and staff. It is a consistent meeting spot throughout each day for our community.

Dorms
Surrounded by nature, our dorms host anywhere from 10 to 30 students. Each facility will be lead by least two Residential Life Teachers, depending on the size to the dorm. Each of our nine dorms offer a unique space for students on campus. More than just a place to live, we create a community atmosphere where students feel welcome and supported. We also recently built two new dorms to replace two of our older facilities, adding larger and more sustainable spaces to our community.

The Library
Library books are readily available to Summer students. They are welcome to check out books over the course of the program to enjoy.

Elm Lea Farm
The during the school year students do the milking for our herd of Holstein and Jersey cows, feed them, and clean the manure gutter. The cows are rotated on lush pasture twice daily during the growing season. The milk is sold to 2 local cheesemakers, Vermont Shepherd and Parish Hill Creamery, as well as Agri-Mark dairy cooperative. The school made a basic cheddar at one point, but has since left it to the experts.

The Field House
Our Field House is home to an open court, weight room, yoga room, and more. It was also the first net-zero LEED Platinum-certified school building in the country. It’s a place for students to play sports, exercise, or simply sit and talk during free blocks after lunch.
